Walkerville Terrace Banners Consultation

Council is planning to install a series of banner frames along Walkerville Terrace as part of our broader Walkerville Terrace Amenity Improvements project. The purpose of the banners is to help strengthen the village feel of the precinct, create a more welcoming main street and support local businesses by improving streetscape presentation.

Earlier this year, community feedback highlighted a desire for some activation and streetscape improvements along Walkerville Terrace. As the longer‑term masterplan for the precinct is scheduled for 2030 under the TOWards2035 Strategic Plan, Council has identified several upgrades that can be delivered in 2026/27 to address this feedback.

In addition to the banner frames, the project includes raised planter boxes, refreshed bin surrounds, new seating, heritage‑style street signs, fairy lighting in the Jacaranda trees, garden bed plantings and general repairs and maintenance.

While most elements of the project do not require formal consultation, Council is specifically seeking your feedback on the installation of banner frames along Walkerville Terrace.

Why we are consulting

Council previously installed banners along Walkerville Terrace in 2015. These were attached to the existing green light poles using a fixed horizontal beam. Although visually effective, the banners often flapped in the wind, causing noise and becoming obscured. As a result, they were removed following concerns raised by nearby residents.

We are now revisiting the concept with a new system designed to address these issues and improve streetscape amenity.

What is proposed

Council is proposing to install 10 banner frames on the existing green light poles. The proposed frames are a spring‑loaded system that allows banners to flex in strong winds, preventing flapping and reducing noise. This system is widely used in main streets and town centres across Australia.

The Walkerville Terrace Banner consultation will run from 9am on Tuesday, 21 July 2026 to 5pm on Monday, 10 August 2026.

At the end of the consultation period, Council will consider all the feedback received and decide on the installation of the banners.
