The Town of Walkerville is seeking community feedback on proposed road and traffic safety improvements around Vale Park Primary School (VPPS).
The aim of this project is to enhance safety for school children, pedestrians and motorists in the surrounding area.
Following a recent traffic study, Council is considering the following initiatives:
Installation of a koala crossing (photo in right-hand sidebar) on Tonkin Street
It is proposed that the existing emu crossing on Tonkin Street be replaced with a koala crossing to provide a safer point for school children and pedestrians to cross. Please note: the koala crossing is likely to be subject to external grant funding.
Construction of a roundabout (photo in right-hand sidebar) at the intersection of Tonkin and Milne streets
A mini roundabout is proposed at this intersection to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for all road users.
Council has endorsed further investigation and consultation with affected residents and stakeholders before making a final decision. The outcomes of this consultation are planned to be presented to Council in December 2025.
The Vale Park Primary School Traffic Safety Improvement Consultation is open from 9am on Friday, 31 October 2025, to 5pm on Thursday, 20 November 2025.
