Draft TOWards2035 Strategic Plan
Consultation has concluded
Town of Walkerville has released its draft TOWards2035 Strategic Plan for public consultation, an important document outlining the direction of Council for the next 10 years.
The draft Strategic Plan sets a clear roadmap for Council, to ensure it reaches its targets and delivers a range of projects to benefit residents and ratepayers within the Township.
Council extensively consulted with residents and ratepayers to form this plan, considering their thoughts, ideas and opinions, and created a comprehensive plan for the future of Gilberton, Medindie, Vale Park and Walkerville.
Through this consultation, Council identified three Key Pillars that the community was passionate about:
- Environmental Sustainability;
- Safe Places & Spaces; and
- Thriving Communities.
In collaboration with the community, a range of Outcomes sit under these Pillars and are accompanied by Priority Actions to ensure Council delivers on the wishes and needs of our residents and ratepayers - guaranteeing that Council develops and grows the Township towards a shared vision for the future.
From green tree canopies and safer neighbourhoods to a thriving community and economy, this draft Strategic Plan ensures that Town of Walkerville is future-proofing the Township, creating a place the community is proud to call home.
Council has carefully considered its Long Term Financial Plan in the development of the document, ensuring there is an achievable balance between the Strategic Plan actions and major projects delivery.

Background
Town of Walkerville launched the beginning of its engagement process for TOWards2035 – the strategic plan for the next 10 years for the Township – in April of this year.
Council wanted to work with the community to ensure the plan met the needs and expectations of the public, so it undertook an extensive consultation to ensure there was adequate feedback from residents and ratepayers.
The first phase of the community consultation process focused on developing the vision and identifying actions and areas of interest.
Council asked the community what they thought the Town of Walkerville should look like by 2035 - and they responded!
The community provided their thoughts on a range of areas, including buildings and reserves, community connectivity and safety, major projects, local business, heritage, and so much more.
The community were involved in this engagement process in a number of ways:
- visited a late-night shopping pop-up stall at Walkerville Shopping Centre on Thursday, 11 April 2024;
- attended the community safety forum with SA Police at Walkerville Town Hall on Wednesday, 17 April 2024;
- dropped in to our engagement stall at Walkerville Oval during the first Walkerville Football Club home game on Saturday, 20 April 2024;
- pinned their ideas for the future of the community on the 'vision' board in the Civic & Community Centre; and
- used the online 'ideas' tool (which is down below and now closed) to sticky note their thoughts on what Town of Walkerville should look like by 2035.
This consultation ran from 9am on Thursday, 4 April, until 5pm on Wednesday, 24 April 2024.
Once finalised, the TOWards2035 Strategic Plan will replace the previous strategic plan - 2020-2024 Living in the Town of Walkerville: a strategic community plan.
