Consultation has concluded
The Town of Walkerville is inviting expressions of interest from individuals, clubs, community groups and organisations seeking to use the exciting new recreation centre currently under construction at 39 Smith Street.
Known as The W, this facility is set to become a vibrant hub for sport, community activity and social connection in the heart of Walkerville. With the build already underway and scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, Town of Walkerville is now seeking expressions of interest from a broad range of potential users to help shape how the space will operate.
Council has already had some great initial conversations with interested parties, but is now looking to open this process up to ensure all individuals, groups and organisations have the opportunity to express interest before any decisions are made about the exciting schedule of activities that will bring this space to life and reflect the needs of our community.
About The W
Delivered with Hutchinson Builders and co-funded by the Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR), The W will feature:
A multi-purpose, two-court stadium with separation curtain catering for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, gymnastics and other active recreation.
Flexible indoor space to host dance, fitness, martial arts and wellness classes.
Meeting rooms and event spaces suitable for community gatherings, workshops and small-scale events.
Kiosk suitable for small-scale operations, including coffee machine, pie warmer, fridges and toastie machine.
You can view the approved concept design package here.
Who should apply?
Council welcomes EOIs from a broad range of potential users, including but not limited to:
Sporting clubs and associations;
Cultural and community groups;
Fitness instructors, dance or movement teachers;
Not-for-profit and service organisations; and
Event organisers and program facilitators.
Council is particularly interested in groups whose activities promote physical wellbeing, social inclusion, intergenerational connection and community development.
Successful applicants will receive a 12-month license, with the potential for long-term tenancy.
Why submit an EOI?
This is a unique opportunity to register your interest, help inform the operational planning process and be among the first considered for future bookings or tenancy discussions. While this EOI does not guarantee a future license or booking, it ensures you are on Council's radar as we prepare to bring The W to life.
Key information
EOI closes: 5pm on Friday, 29 August 2025
Facility opening: Practical completion December 2025 and opening in the New Year
Next steps: Council will assess EOIs to guide future programming, booking systems and potential license arrangements.
