The Town of Walkerville has developed a draft Masterplan, including 3D perspectives, for Levi Oval and Vale Street.
The proposed changes seek to assist with the increasing demand for sporting facilities, particularly driven by strong growth in female and junior participation and the growing capacity pressures currently being experienced at Walkerville Oval.
The recommended changes have come about as a result of Town of Walkerville’s long-standing commitment to improving the facilities within the Township as part of its major projects strategy. The proposed scope of works would include the following:
New sports lighting for Levi Oval, suitable for junior sports and training sessions. Lighting would include three 25-metre high poles with LED fittings that are specifically designed to minimise light spill to surrounding areas and neighbouring properties. The proposed lighting will be at a lower level brightness for junior sport and training, compared to the lighting at Walkerville Oval, which is lit for senior sport and match practice;
18 new parallel parking bays on Vale Street (south side), along with footpath and landscaping works to integrate the new parking layout;
formalised Levi Oval carpark (increased to 21 car parks) located off of Lansdowne Terrace; and
new indented location for Bus Stop 13.
The proposed Masterplan will include the following benefits:
the lighting will allow Levi Oval to be used during nighttime hours for both training and junior sports;
the addition of 18 parallel parking spaces on Vale Street will address the existing lack of parking at Levi Oval, making the oval more accessible for users; and
the revised Levi Oval carpark will provide additional parking spaces to further improve the oval's accessibility.
In addition, the playground is due for renewal as part of the 2027-28 Capital Renewal Program.
The proposed works will not impact the established palm trees along the fence line, and any minor planting affected will be limited to recently established vegetation, with relocation undertaken where feasible.
The draft Levi Oval & Vale Street Masterplan showing the proposed works is attached in the side bar under 'documents'.
Also attached in the 'documents' on the side bar is an image of the light spillage at Walkerville Oval. This image is provided as an example of light spillage only, not brightness.
