Rotary peace pole consultation
Consultation has concluded
Town of Walkerville is currently consulting with residents about a Peace Pole Project request for Mary P Harris (Bundilla) Reserve by the Rotary Club of Walkerville.
The project aims to promote peace and mutual understanding among people from diverse cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. The Rotary Club wants to erect a peace pole from this initiative in the heart of the Township.
The peace pole itself will be a monument that bears the message, “May peace prevail on Earth”, in different languages on each of its sides.
If successful, the peace pole is suggested to have four languages on the pole, such as English and Kaurna language, as well as the top two languages (other than English) spoken in Town of Walkerville, which is Mandarin and Greek.
The year 2024 marks 100 years of Rotary in South Australia and to commemorate this achievement, local Rotary Clubs are aiming to donate 100 peace poles to schools, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
At the 19 August 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council endorsed the project for community consultation:
