Consultation has concluded

The below is an example of a Council consultation recently completed prior to the launch of this website (Your Say Walkerville). All engagement will be undertaken on Your Say Walkerville moving forward.

The Town of Walkerville proposed to merge its Heritage Plaques Fund Policy and Heritage Plaques Policy into a single consolidated policy to reflect changes to plaque processing within the Township. An overview was provided:

  • Council’s Heritage Plaques Scheme is currently delivered by two policy mechanisms: the Heritage Plaques Policy and the Heritage Plaques Fund Policy.
  • The Heritage Plaques Policy was designed to set up the scheme, the application criteria, administrative process and delivery mechanism for Heritage Plaques.
  • The Heritage Plaques Funding Policy detailed the initial funding arrangement for the delivery of the plaques, which was underpinned by a $5,040 contribution provided by the now disbanded Walkerville Historic Society. This policy allowed owners of a recognised Local or State Heritage Place to access a $250 grant towards the cost of a heritage plaque and/or the installation costs associated with the plaque.
  • In October 2021, Council resolved to fully subsidise the cost associated with Local and State Heritage Plaques across the Township. Therefore, the two former policies are now considered to be obsolete and have been consolidated to reflect the changes.
  • The Draft Heritage Plaque and Associated Funding Policy allows plaque applications to be assessed on a case by case basis, at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
