Council By-laws
Consultation has concluded
Town of Walkerville By-laws are established to ensure that Council can respond to issues within the local area and assist us in protecting the convenience, comfort and safety of our community.
Councils have the power to establish By-laws under the Local Government Act 1999.
By-laws must be reviewed every seven years to ensure they are relevant, meet the needs and expectations of our community, and are up to date with current legislative requirements.
The Town of Walkerville currently has five By-laws, which were last reviewed in 2015 and came into operation on 1 January 2016:
- By-law No. 1 – Permits and Penalties
- By-law No. 2 – Local Government Land
- By-law No. 3 – Roads
- By-law No. 4 – Moveable Signs
- By-law No. 5 – Dogs
Council has reviewed and updated the By-laws in line with the statutory requirements, legislative changes and taking into account concerns that have previously been raised by the Legislative Review Committee regarding By-law provisions.
We are inviting the local community to have a say on the draft By-laws before they are formally adopted.
The revised By-laws are open for consultation from 9am on Monday 15 August 2022 to 5pm on Monday 5 September 2022.
