Consultation has concluded

Council has revised its "Code of Practice – Access to Council Meetings, Council Committees & Council Documents" (Code) to allow Council Committee meetings to be facilitated by electronic means, when that meeting is conducted in a place open to the public.

The Draft Code reflecting the changes is now released for public consultation.

It comes following the below motion from Deputy Mayor Liz Trotter at the December Ordinary Meeting of Council:

That in the interest of fully committing to ensuring the principle of open and accountable decisionmaking is upheld, I request that Administration bring forward the review of Council’s current Code of Practice - Access to Council Meetings, Council Committees & Council Documents policy, and in doing so seek to include provisions that allow for Members to participate in Committee Meetings and Information and Briefing Sessions via electronic means, as well as in person.

At the January Ordinary Meeting of Council, Elected Members endorsed the Draft Code for consultation. The full Council report can be viewed here.

Section 92 of the Local Government Act 1999 stipulates that a Council must prepare and adopt a Code of Practice relating to the principles, policies, procedures and practices that will apply to ensure access to Council and Council Committee meetings and documents, and encourage appropriate community participation in the affairs of Council.

The Draft Code of Practice is open for consultation from 9am on Tuesday 7 February 2023 to 5pm on Tuesday 28 February 2023.
