Consultation has concluded
Council is undertaking a major refurbishment of 39 Smith Street, to upgrade the site to a modern sports and community facility.
A $5 million contribution from the State Government will allow Council to embark on the project this financial year, in partnership with Member for Adelaide Lucy Hood MP.
The refurbishment will reactivate the former recreation centre into a useable and practical space for the community. Early master planning includes updated viewing areas, landscaping for a greater connection to Walkerville Terrace and the improvement of spaces for squash, basketball and gymnastics. It will include creating a fresh façade, refreshing internal services and bringing the entire site up to current compliance standards.
Further information, including concept designs, will be released for community review in the coming months.
In addition to Council undertaking a preliminary community consultation process to inform the community of the current plans and timeframes for the refurbishment of 39 Smith Street, Council also seeks the community’s general feedback about possible future options for the activation of the Fuller Street Council works depot site.
